Mrs. W hr3 Aj KopadtIn salt by the sea there are 4 main characters. I currently do not have my book so I might misspell them. Juana a nurse who is half German which allowed her safe passage under Hitler but she is walking to the ship to hopefully make it to a safer place (America). Then there is emilia. She is a polish girl who so far doesn't seem special at all except for she's been through a city that Stalin went through. Also there is Alfred. He is a German soldier. Then there is Fione who is a spy for the Russians. He is very secretive but helps people in need.
I’m looking forward to seeing how all the characters come together. They are so different and come from all different families and even some different countries. I can’t wait to see how they work together later in the book.
Mrs.W hr. 3 Tyler WindsorIn the book Salt to the Sea there are four main characters: Joana, Emilia, Florian, and Alfred. For this blog, I will be focusing on Florian. Florian is a teenage Prussian who was badly wounded in the forest by the Russian who attacked him and Florian eventually ended up killing him. He then saved a girl named Emilia who was there with the Russian because she reminded him of his sister. His family was all killed and he is running from Hitler. I believe that Florian’s character is more similar to me than any of the other characters.
Mrs. W hr3 Aj KopadtFlorian is my favorite character and you got all the information correct. I would like to know more about this Dr. Lange guy he talks about because he seems interesting.
I like Florian also because he sounds like a really awesome character in the book but I want to know more about him because he has not talked about his life that much.
Mrs. W 3rd hour Jordan RiteIn Salt To The Sea there are four main characters. Emilia is my favorite character in the story so far. She is a Polish girl that had to leave her mom. She is following Florian another main character who saved her from a Russian soldier in the woods. Where they came to a barn where they met Joana and all of her friends she found on the way.
I don't like Emilia, because she seems very childish and is not independent, my I favorite is Florian because he is a leader and cares about everyone. He also is the reason that Emilia is even alive, so that's why Florian is the best character in Salt to the Sea.
Mrs. W 3rd Tyler WindsorI made a text-to-text connection between the characters in Salt to the Sea. All the characters are going through the same type of situation. They all either have a dead family or don’t know where they are. Therefore they are all running away trying to get to a safe place outside of the war, one of the biggest connections they have is that they are all teenager. I predict that they will become close due to this common connection between them all.
I agree with you because I think they all have a connection in the story and have things in common like having a dead family or don't know where they are.
Jordan Rite Mrs. W3rd hourI made a text-to-world connection in the book because I saw a documentary on youtube about people in WWII. Like some of the people in the documentary they had to runaway from their home country and Nazi’s are trying to find them. Also, the main characters are all teenagers that found each other a lot of the people in the documentary were also teenagers, and are trying to survive to get to the port. This made me have more concern for them when I read the Salt to the Sea.
I also made this connection, because I also have watched many documentaries on WWII. Which talk about people running away from the war and trying to find freedom, but I don't know about a lot of teenagers escaping.
Tyler WindsorMrs. W3rd hourI visualized the part of the book when the author explained the boarding dock that refuges are going to escape the war. He explained how cold and crowded the docks are. I visualized a movie of a lot of people crowded on a dock, in the freezing cold, all fighting to get on a boat. And if they can't then they will die. It was very crazy and unorganized when I visualized the boarding dock.
Mrs. W hr3 Aj kopadtI can See how that would make you feel more concern for these people because they are still young and have not gotten to live a rich full life yet.
Jordan RiteMrs. W3rd hourI can relate to this part in the story because they are still teenagers and that would not be good because they still can live their life if they can get on the boat. It would definitely be scary because you don’t know what could happen.
Mrs. W hr 3 Aj kopadtSomethings I really could visualize are when they see all the people start crossing the frozen lake. I could imagine a huge open lake surrounded by forests and then suddenly hundreds of people come from the forest. Another part I can visualize is when they are back in the mansion I could picture an old man dressed like a general going room from room the way florian described. Those parts I could clearly visualize with ease.
Jordan RiteMrs. W3rd hourI can relate to this part in the Salt to the Sea because in the scene with the huge lake it was very intense, so I could visualize them being very careful when they were crossing the lake.
Jordan RiteMrs. W3rd hourI visualized the part in Salt to the Sea where the characters went across a frozen river because when it was winter. I went to a creek that was frozen and I almost fell in because the ice was not strong enough to hold me just like in the book where the ice was not strong enough to the group. Then when they started to get across it started breaking so they ran back and Ingrid another main character died because she could not get back in time before she fell in.
Tyler WindsorMrs. W3rd HourI can relate to this part in Salt to the Sea because of all of the movies I have seen with this in it. I visualized this part a little more dramatic then you did. However the way Ingrid died was the same.
I also can imagine that very well. For me it is not because I experienced that but, because of how well he described it. Experiencing something like that would be scary to me because falling under a frozen river normally is not something you just walk off.
Mrs. W hr3 Aj KopadtI have a Text-To-Text connection with this story. I play lots of video games and this is like an escape game I have played. While it was not escape to the west the stakes were still high. There are lots of challenges to over come such as their supplies. The people in the book do not have much. Very little food old worn clothing it is hard for them. They have no help except from the people in their group just like my game which makes it more appealing to me.
Tyler WindsorMrs. W 3rd Hour I can relate fully with this comparison, because I to play video games. This does fit in very well as as a video game. However I would visualize this more as a movie than a video game, because of it's characters.
Tyler WindsorMrs. W3rd HourThe four characters in Salt to the Sea all come from different backgrounds and and lifes. There is one Prussian spy, a 15 year old pregnant girl, a nurse, and a young sailor. So they all have different views on what is happening. The Prussian sees the rest of the group as just being in the way of him. The nurse sees all the hurt people and wants to hep. The pregnant girl just wants to stay alive and find a home. Last the sailor wants to impress everyone and do what’s right. The author could have chosen these three perspectives because she wants us to see many different lives people would have lived during that time. It works very well, because it really opens your eyes to all the horrible things that happen to many people not just one set character. This impacts the story because you can see the lives of four deep characters, and how they all work together even though they are so different.
I agree with you because they all lived different lives from different cultures. They also have to look out for each other by playing different roles in the story.
Mrs W hr3 AjkopadtAll the characters in this story are very different. Juana come from a good family where she was able to work hard and become the top of her class. She then pursed a medical degree. Florians mum died when he was very young and his dad died later on in his life for helping an assassination attempt on Hitler. Florian became an apprentice of Dr. Lange who "restored" art work. This helped Florian several times in the book because its where he learned how to copy things. He soon learns Dr. Lange is stealing the art work so he takes the most valuable piece and runs. Emilia is a young girl with not that much back round. All we really know is that her dad got sick and sent her to a farm where she was not accepted and when the Russians got there they offered her instead of her daughter. Alfred (another character with little back round) is just a kid with a loving mother who was different. He likes to see animals and people suffer. He was able to join the navy eventually. He writes letters to this jewish girl that he got killed. The different perspectives makes this story cool because if something happens to one character then you can see how the group feels. It adds an extra layer to this book which really makes it interesting. It was a great idea for her to do this and it makes the story longer. This book is one I would recommend.
I agree that all the characters are different, they have to look past their differences and work together to find their freedom. This adds a realistic feel to the story that you would not get without multiple developed characters.
I agree that all the characters in the story are different and that they have to help each other find a way to freedom by helping each other through rough times like when Ingrid died, and Florian helped Joana cope with her dying.
Jordan RiteMrs. W3rd hourThe four main characters in Salt to the Sea come from many different types of backgrounds in the story. There is a Prussian spy, a nurse, and a 15 year old girl, and a sailor on a ship. So they all have different views on what is happening. The Prussian sees the rest of the group as just being in the way of him. The nurse wants to help anyone who is injured or wounded. The pregnant girl just wants to stay alive with the Prussian and find a home. Last the sailor wants to impress everyone (mostly girls) and do what’s he thinks is right. The author might have chosen these three perspectives because she wants us to see different lives people would have lived during that time. It helps see all the horrible things that may have happened to people not just one character. This impacts the story because you can see the lives of four characters, and how they all work together even when they don’t like each other.
I agree with the different characters, living different lives. They all had to get over their terrible lives, and find hope in the dark. They all worked together and got away from their lives and found hope.
