Francisco JimenezScheller 1 The book Three Dark Crowns has three main characters, Katherine is the first character you meet she is one of the triplets. Katherine will have to fight her sisters for the queen's position. Katherine is a Poisoner, she is the skinny and short sister. Katherine was born into a very strict setting she can not eat too much, and she can not look sad or mad she has to look happy. The Poisoners historical background makes Katherine have a lot of pressure, because a Poisoner has been queen for some time and she has to live up to the expectations. If i was in her shoes i would be stressed all the time, i would not want to do anything that Natalia told me to do. Also i like to eat so i would hate it to be starved.
Cameron SteinbrueggeMrs. W4I agree, food is nice. I can't imagine not being able to for longer than a day, and then the chance food is available it poisons you resulting in extreme pain.
Ella Hays Scheller 3i agree because the fact that she has to look happy while she is starving and obviously feeling very weak it must be hard to have go more than a day with out food in your system whale she is getting poisoned
Daisy OrtizMrs.Schiller 1 Three dark crowns setting is more like in a island where magical and mysteries things happen also dangerous things, there are three princess which are very different than one another they all have different powers that make then unique. There is the poisoner, the element, and the naturalist so far the setting affects all the princess because they have to compete with one another to be the queen of the island and whoever wins have to kill there own sisters which is kinda harsh to kill their own siblings the poisoner princess Katherine just turn 16 and now she has to get ready for the contest to become the queen which she is nervous because if she wins the crown she has to kill her sister but then she thinks that she might not win because she is very skinny and weaker than the other and she's afraid to lose and get killed.I wouldn't want to go through what they are going through just because I wouldn't anything to happen to me or my "sisters" and I wouldn't want to kill them just to get a crown to become queen. So far that's what has been happening in my book.
Trenton BrooksherMrs. W.3rdI do agree with the statement that killing ones family for a throne is harsh, and i too would protect my family.Although this is a different island, and with a different land comes new cultures, and with a new culture comes different people,so for these people it might be normal to kill ones family. so i try to keep in mind that these queens are programmed to hate each other.
Zoey Walke Mrs. Scheller 2 Three Dark Crowns is set in the ages of queens and kings. Where everything takes place is on this land of Fennbirn, were three princess must fight each other for one thrown.Though this isn't just any competition its a matter of their life or death. To win the thrown you must be the strongest, you must kill you two other siblings. This book has three main characters that are triplets all with a different unique powers. The three powers are poisner, naturalist, fierce element. Katherine is the first of our triplets we meet with her power of poisoner, which one can ingest the most deadliest poison into one without much of a stomach ache. Arsinoe is the naturalist of the three twins. In which she has the ability to bloom the reddest of the roses and control the fiercest lion. The third triplet is Mirabella the elemental power her being able to spark a hungry flame or a vicious storm at the snap of her fingers. My reaction to having to adapt to something like this would be hard. Since, I wouldn't go through with killing my sisters. Yes, I barely know them; but that's still a large thing to deal with.Though, in the end i'd do what it takes to survive.I would fight. Why would I fight because i'm doing what it takes to survive.
Mrs. W 4thSamantha KaryI really like how much detail that you have in your explanation and how much effort you put into it. Also I liked how you explained all the sisters backgrounds, lifestyle, and how they have to kill. Towards the end of your explanation I liked how you incorporated how you feel and how you would act if you were in their situation.
Ella HaysMrs. Scheller 3Ella HaysMrs. Scheller 3The timeline in Three Dark Crowns is in the kings and queens part of history. Katherine has a very big responsibility and she realizes that when it is most important because the is a poisoner and and she has been the queen for a long time but she can not eat the proper amount of food she needs and is a very small and skinny person, she can’t look unhappy or sad she must look happy at all times. Katherine has grown up in a very strict household she is only 16 and already a queen that is a lot of responsibility for a girl her age. In my opinion i would not like to be in her spot in time because it is obvious she is not happy and there is nothing she can do for herself.
I do not agree with your blog because Katherine is just a princess not a queen yet. She has to kill to of her other sisters to be a queen which hasn't happened yet so you cant really call her Queen. Every one of the Princesses has a lot of responsibility and there will be more when they became queen of Fennbirn.
Mrs. WSamantha KaryThe book Three Dark Crowns has three main characters, they are all sisters who need to find a way the kill each other with what they have. Katherine is introduced first in the book. She is a Poisoner, she is the skinny and short one of the 3 sisters. She was born into a strict family with very high expectations. The reason that her expectations are so high is because the queen now was a part of the Poisoner group, which is very stressful for her. She has to act a certain way, for example she can’t be mad or sad and she cant eat too much. She has to follow the rules. I would not want to have to face this problem if I was in this situation.
Mrs. W. 4Cameron Steinbruegge The only main Character I know of currently is Katherine. She is a very weak and skinny person. Her job is to fight her sisters to the death for the title of queen. Even though she is weak, she has the ability to digest very potent poisons. She will use her ability to kill her sisters and claim the throne, just as all the past poison queens have. Her family is disappointed in her for her puking during the feast they were having to test her strength.
There are more main characters then Katherine. There are 2 more characters to be exact and there names are Mirabella and Arinsoe, who are the other candidates for the crown. Add more detail to the your "blog" about the story unless that's as much as you know. The conflict that the characters are facing right now are personal problems, with Katherine is her overall weakness and with Arinsoe its her gift that's the problem she has not developed into that area and Mirabella is having problems with the people around a her, like when a girl sacrificed herself for her.
Jordyn Sgroi 5th Hour Scheller The setting of Three Dark Crowns takes place in 3 different places due to having 3 different queens. The queens are sisters that have to fight one another for one throne. The setting affects the queens because where they are, each a different one on the island, correlates with what they are training for. Katherine is a Poisoner so she is with all the Poisoners of the island. They are in these places so they can practice their gifts. Each queen has a different one. They also have trainers so they can get the help they need. I don't like the fact that they have to fight for one throne and kill each other for it, but i like that they have “powers” or a gift that will help them. It makes it more interesting. In Arisones environment the people that train her have animals which is really cool.
Mrs. Sh. 5Jenna Weber Three Dark crowns is a story about three triplets seperated at birth, Katherine the poisoner, Arisone the naturalist, and Mirabella the elemental. Together they must fight one another to the death until one remains for the crown. The time in which this takes place is a time where king and queens reign. Each character lives in a very different enviornment from one another. Katherine lives in a large house where a high class family stays, Mirabella lives in an ancient like place, and Arisone lives in a winter stricken area with many animals and nature. The fact that the three sisters have to fight to the death is a reason they choose some of their actions and ways to behave. Katherine lives in a strict household and people expect her to be queen due to the many poisoner queens behind her. Because of this, she acts like she is destine and needs to kill her sisters and will do so no question. Arisone is much more laid back and does as she pleases most of the time, so she has her doubts as well as thinks she will win just as mirabella who is considered extremely strong and talented therefore a threat to the other two sisters. If i had to adapt to their situations and environment i would be beyond stressed out and afraid to have the constant danger of being killed right after my sixteenth birthday. Let alone the fact that if i were to be a weak talent holder, then that would mean i had at least a 50% chance of death. Katherine also goes through more of a tough time since one of her mistresses poison her to make her immune and this hurts her badly. I wouldn't be able to do it at all whatsoever even if i tried to.
The "Blog" that you posted is very good, I like how you explained the story. Some of the details that you added i did not even know. I think that your "blog" is perfect, also your reasoning's are very good.
Sarahi CockrellMs.Sheller 5th hourIn the book Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake, there is a 16 year old poisoner queen named Katherine, who lives in a kingdom called Fennbirn. In every couple years there are triplets born. All three triplets have to figure a way to kill her sisters in order to become queen. Katherine, one of the three twins is what they would call the “runt”. She cant feel any emotion other than happy and she cant eat too much because there are expectations with being a poisoner queen. Katherine has just turned 16 in the setting and she is getting ready for her party, Natalia tells her she can only wet her lips with drink and she can not eat anything for the fear that it might be poisoned. I feel like in this setting it is really stressful for Katherine, because of having to kill her sisters, worrying every second if somethings poisoned, living up to the poisoner queen expectations, and everything else she has to deal with while going through while going through these things just to become queen.
Three Dark Crowns takes place in three different kingdoms, for three different queens. The perspectives alternate between these three queens in each chapter. These three queens are selected triplets to represent their kingdom and their different powers, they had been given a few years to live in luxury away from each other before they will face each other in a sort of battle to determine who the strongest one of the triplets is truly fit to rule. On the first chapter that you read, the perspective is taken in through Queen Katharine, who had just turned sixteen. To celebrate her birthday the people of her kingdom throw a ball as sort of a last luxury party before she is sent off to battle against her sister. Katharine is a poisoner, but according to one of her maids she is so weak that not even her ability will be able to help her in the battle. Meanwhile, the next chapter takes a perspective through Queen Arsinoe, who just like her other sister is about to celebrate her birthday. Arsinoe is a naturalist, and unlike Katharine, Arsinoe is more respected than her sister, with one of her caretakers named Jules treats her as if Arsinoe is her friend instead of her superior. Arsinoe does not seem to mind this, however Arsinoe is not aware that Jules makes her seem more powerful than she really is. At the beginning, Arsinoe is trying to make a flower bloom, but is not strong enough to get it to even open up a little. Arsinoe asks for the assistance of Jules, claiming that if Jules just gives her a start, Arsinoe will be able to make it bloom on her own. Jules does not want to make Arsinoe feel weak, so she creates the entire flower on her own, making it seem as though Arsinoe had created it. The following chapter takes place in the perspective of the final sister, Mirabella, the elemental. Mirabella is by far the sister that most people believe will win in the competition which is seen when the priestess of all kingdoms tends to visit Mirabella more. Many people believe that Mirabella is the prettiest out of all the twins, and she fills her cup from their praises. However, you may start to see the conflict that goes around Mirabella, which may change your opinion of her after really reading her side of the story. I think that these three chapters really highlight the fact that no sister is really stronger than the other, they are all going though their own obstacles. Whether it be the criticism of those around you making you feel weak, the unawareness to your real amount of power, or the conflict that goes around you or even in your head. In these ways, it seems to me that the sisters are more alike than other people may give them credit for.
Megan BrownScheller 2Three Dark Crown is set in the old days where they have kings and queens. Katherine is one of the three triplets. She has the ability to digest poison but she has not fully taken on her ability yet so she always gets sick from eating it. The reason why she has to eat or drink the poison is because she has to kill her 2 sisters in order to be crowned queen. This is a big responsibility for her because the poisoners have been the queen for a decades. I would almost never want to be put into Katherine's situation. I would be cool to be queen but i would not want to be drinking and eating poison. Even out of the other sisters. I would not want to be them either. They all have this big responsibility to use their gift and kill their 2 sisters and become queen.
Dalyce Mrs. Scheller 2 Everything takes place on this land called Fennbirn, were 3 princesses must fight each other until only one is left to receive the throne. To win the throne you must be the strongest, and you have to kill two of the other siblings until you are the only one left. This book has three main characters that are triplets all with a different unique powers. The three powers are poisoner, naturalist, and the elemental. Katherine is the first of the triplets we meet with her power of poisoner, she can consume the most deadliest poison without getting a bad stomach ache. Arsinoe is the naturalist of the three twins. She can bloom all sorts of plants. The third triplet is Mirabella, the elemental. Mirabella can make a storm turn into summer with the snap of her fingers. My reaction to having to adapt to something like this would be kinda difficult. I don't have sisters but they are family and I don't think I would be able to murder them. Even in the end I might just give up and let one of the 2 win.
Francisco JimenezMrs. Scheller 1The first character you meet when you first read the book is Katherine. Katherine is a skinny and small person. She is a poisoner which means that she can consume a large amount of poison without dying. Everyone has high expectations for Katherine, because the poisoners have ruled as queens for a long time so everyone expects for her to become queen. Katherine's mother like figure is named Natalia, she makes Katherine do a lot of bad things. Natalia makes Katherine stand up straight, starve so she won't get fat,and push her gift beyond her limit. I do not agree with Natalia, because all of the things that she is making Katherine do are things that Katherine does not want to do. I think that everybody can do what ever they want because we all only have one life so live the best life you can live.
I agree that some of Natalia's actions are unjust but she does have some reason for it. The standing up straight part just makes her look more presentable which is what the Black Council wants. Genevieve is the one who starves her and complains that she is not strong enough. Since Natalia is basically the guardian of Kat and has a right to tell Kat what to do even if Kat does not want to do it. We still have to have some rules in the world or everything would be chaos.
Zinat OlogunduduMrs.Scheller 1The effect that the setting which is the island has on Mirabella, the Elemental Queen, is that she is able to control elements. Mirabella is one of the strongest elemental queen and is favored to win by many islanders. Being the favored queen has its perks, and Mirabella is also considered the most beautiful of the sisters. The religious sect of the island, led by the High Priestess and her legions of priestesses, sees in Mirabella the chance to topple the poisoner dynasty, and restore the island to balance, and to the following of the Goddess. Mirabella might be very powerful but she is able to still peoples heart by using her beauty. If I had to adapt to Mirabella’s environment, I would be looking forward to it because she is like a flower in an island.
Zinat OlogunduduMrs.Scheller 1In the Book “Three Dark Crowns” Katharine who is one of the three sisters in an island fighting for the throne. Kathatine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Queen Katharine is the poisoner queen. She was fostered by the Arron family of poisoners, the strongest and oldest poisoner family on the island. The last three Queens Crowned have been poisoners, and because of that the poisoner culture is strong. They have taken over the capital city and the government. They turn their noses up at unpoisoned food. They have no desire to give up the crown. I like everything about Katharine because she is a poisoner but she is willing to do anything to win the throne unlike Mirabella who is also willing to do anything to win the throne but she was willing to poison her sister and ruin her sister bond because of a throne.
Daisy OrtizMrs.Scheller1I think that princess Mirabella is the one thatwill do anything to win the crown even if that means hurting her sisters. Also she thinks that she is the strongest out of her sisters just because Katharine is skinny and young she shouldn´t underestimate her,but she still does. Katharine is more like a sweet little angel although she is a poisoner.
Daisy Ortiz Mrs.Scheller1One character whos actions I disagree with is princess Mirabella her actions towards her sisters aren´t the best and also her behavior. When Katharine turn 16 and they had a party thing related Katharine had it food that was poisoned Mirabella made sure that it was extra poisoned which made it harder for Katharine to eat all the food in her plate and instead off Mirabella helping she really didn´t help her. All though shes that she did that to help get stronger she didn´t have to make it extreme.I think that this character is acting this way because she wants more chances to win the crown to become an official queen and also because she does not want to start caring about her sisters because if she does and she does win the crown she has to kill her sisters. I don´t think she should act that way because they are her sisters. I thinks she should take things easy and slowly.
I agree with you because princess Mirabella did not have to poison her sister just so that she can win some kind of Throne. If Mirabella is the chosen queen to the throne then she will be but ruining her sisters birthday party just to kill her and get the throne is wrong. Mirabella is a elemental princess which means that she didn't have to use Katharine's power against her because she could have used her fire, water, or storm power to hurt her if she is that desperate.
I actually disagree because Mirabella never poisoned her sister at her 16th birthday party. Mirabella wasn't near the party for her sister Katherine. Mirabella was with her own servant in her own castle. The one to add extra poison was Genevieve. She had added the extra poison to strengthen her queen. The battle fore the thrown has yet to begin. So, far we are only to the suitors part in which would be a king to the winning queen. So, the battle has yet to began with them all fighting for the thrown.
Jenna weber SH hour 5i disagree. as one of the replies stated, mirabella did not poison katherines food at all whatsoever. Her mistress had in order to 'immune her' as she had always been doing and it has caused a very negative effect on katherine. however mirabella did not attend her 16th birthday nor did her other sister. The sisters do not and are not meant to see each other at all until the time the queens begin their year of fighting for the crown. If mirabella were to poison her sister before the event it wouldnt be good news for her.

Dalyce Scheller 2I agree with what you are saying here, how can she make Kat so weak and say she is making her stronger? How could someone tear someone else down to make them stronger? I also don't get how people can just watch all this happen to Kat, can't they try and do something?
Dalyce Scheller 2 The person's actions I don't agree with is Genevieve because she always complains how queen Katherine is too small or too skinny, she isn't strong enough but Genevieve always starves and poisons Kat which causes her to be so skinny and she doesn't feed her right. Genevieve also likes to rub poison oak on Kat making her skin break out and then always tears down her self-esteem by saying how she isn't that beautiful no matter what she does. Genevieve is all around a terrible person because if she stopped and let Kat get better and heal from everything they do to her maybe she would get stronger and bigger instead of being so skinny and weak.
I agree with you all the way! All Genevieve does is tear down Katherine. Which isn't a way for someone to treat them. Genevieve is harsh to Katherine until she is banished due to the fact she poisons Katherine badly enough to make her fain/collapse.
Zoey walke Scheller 2 The actions of Genevieve in Three Dark Crowns is incorrect. Genevieve complains about Katherine being to skinny, to frail, or to weak; but Genevieve poisons her queen a decent amount to make her stronger. Genevieve even added extra poison to her queen plate of food at her 16th birthday part. What's wrong with that is the fact she complains about her being to brittle or frail and all the poison does is weaken her a bit more though you are trying to build her immune system up to be able to bet the different types of poisons out there. Genevieve does this to make her queen stronger to battle her siblings and survive. A preferable action would be to stop complaining about the actions you are doing to weaken your queen.
I completely agree that it was unjust of Genevieve to poison Katharine, as well as the harsh manner that she uses with her everyday. However, let us not forget that weak queens typically die first, and this battle has the prize of survival and the remembrance of her later in history. Not to mention that Natalia had actually done the same thing by rubbing poison into Katharine's arms. Giselle, the maid, was the only one who had actually shown any sympathy towards poor Katharine's pain. In my opinion Giselle should be the one watching over Katharine, and not Natalia. I bet Giselle's way of getting Katharine stronger would be less harsh.
Dalyce 2nd Scheller I agree, what Genevieve does is uncalled for. She poisons Kat and beats her. I don´t know if she´s trying to strengthen her or kill her. I agree with Giselle´s actions. She treats Kat like a child, how she should actually be treated. Just because someone is queen does not mean she should be treated differently or so harsh. I also believe Giselle is the person watching over Kat, not Natalia.
While reading Three Dark Crowns, I noticed that each character is going through their own challenges. However, there were some actions that the characters had done that I personally disagreed with. One of these characters was Mirabella. Allow me to remind you that Mirabella is constantly watched over by High Priestess Luca as well as everyone who serves under the temple of the goddess, so Mirabella is not really given a whole lot of freedom. In one of the chapters taken in the perspective of Mirabella, Luca calls for Mirabella to follow Rho, a person who is very strong about her belief of the goddess. Mirabella is completely unaware where she is being taken until she is taken into a room full of people of the temple covered in different colored cloaks. A young girl is presented in front of a pit of fire. It was at that moment that Mirabella realized that she would decide the fate of this girl. The fate of her death was decided when the girl jumped over as Mirabella watched, shocked and horrified. I strongly disagree with this action done by Mirabella, her choice of action to just stand there and not do anything to help this girl. Even if this girl had volunteered to be a sacrifice (which is revealed later on in the novel), she was still so young, and deserved to live out the rest of her life. But Mirabella did not save this girl, and simply watched. Perhaps Mirabella did not want to argue in front of hundreds of supporters of the goddess, making herself seem weak. However, Mirabella is the queen, she makes the rules not the people of the temple. An alternate action towards this sacrifice before it was even made could have been Mirabella simply objecting to the sacrifice, and suggest a different way to honor their goddess. Maybe simply each person could have used a blade and cut their hands, letting the blood drip into the fire as a way of saying "all of those who have given blood support the goddess", and leave it at that, no use of sacrifice at all. -Scheller, 2nd hour
I agree with some of the things that you said because Mirabella is put under a lot if pressure but in the end she has accomplished a lot more than a normal person would have. The thing about her objecting to the sacrifice is the part i don't quite agree with because if she had said something she could have lost the support of everyone there and made a lot of people mad with just a few words, they serve a hire perpouse and would do anything to make there goddess happy even if that means killing an innocent girl.
I agree that Mirabella is still young as well and at such a young age she shouldnt have to be put under so much pressure. Even though she is the queen, the higher priestesses should not let her see what could affect her for a long long time. I also dont agree with the fact that she didnt know because if she did she could have prepared herself for what she was about to witness and think about what she was going to do.
Jenna weber SH 5th hour I agree and disagree to this statement. As a queen in this world, your duty is to do as what pleases your suitors such as the sacrifice. These sacrifices are just as would be the event in which these three girls fight for the crown. Before mirabella these queens were most likelt comfortable doing this action. Mirabella specifically has a more tender and emotional personality. For example katherine and arisone do not seem as of now to care about their sisters but mirabella does. As a culture and ritual, these sacrifices seem normal and it is the character herself whom is responsible for it seeming unjust in a general eye. But, i do agree with your opinion on her objecting the sacrifice. As a queen, these girls are expected to make a new order in their way but with guidance of whomever is in charge until they are themselves. Mirabella could have easily objectified and ignored the pleas and pressure to do the sacrifce from her suitors but fell in to the pressure as to her personality allowed it. If she really were considered the strongest queen she easily could have passed this on and claimed a specific reason to persuade suitors what she and her morals and or talents were meant for in her eyes.
In Three Dark Crowns, there are 3 sisters who are taken away from each other and are raised in different and forced to fight each other for the crown. The character that I can connect to is Mirabella because she has so many things thrown at her, like people sacrificing themselves for her without her permission. Also how everyone wants her to be the new queen because she is so strong so she is kind of force to win the battle for the crown.
SH hour 5Jenna WeberIn three dark crowns, Joseph cheats on Jules with Mirabella. I completely disagree with this not only because it's wrong but because of the fact of what he had been saying to Jules. Recently Joseph had been banned from the kingdom and had just come back to see the 'love of his life' and 'the girl he had loved all of his life' jules. One day Joseph went out on a trip on the sea and this was while as of Mirabella had run away to escape the islands. Mirabella finds Joseph on the shore due to his ship wrecking and saves him but they start kissing and so forth and once Joseph wakes up he claims he's guilty and upset with himself YET he keeps cheating on jules until he is found by her and Arisone. A possible reason for this however, is a spell that Arisone and another mistress had casted involving attraction that had not yet been classified in the story. I think the reason Joseph is doing this with Mirabella and still claims he loves jules is because of this spell. However it doesnt helo the fact that joseph cheated and jules doesnt even know it yet let alone the fact he cheated at all. a better response and attitude to this situation is either joseph comes clean and or should not have even done so in the first place and stayed away from mirabella considering another fact that she is a queen.
Mrs. W 4thSamantha KaryI would have to completely agree with you about Joseph. It was most definitely not okay to cheat on Jules even after he had told that what he did was wrong and is upset with what he did but then continue to do it. I liked all your detail and explanation about what and how it had happened.
I agree that it could be the spell from early but if it was then i don't think Joseph would be guilty. if he was under a spell than he would have no control over himself.
Jordyn Sgroi 5th Hour Scheller I disagree with Joseph’s actions because he shouldn’t have gave Billy ( a suitor ) the impression that Arsinoe would go for him and that she would choose him. Joseph doesnt know that she will or even if she will like him. Joseph said to the suitor that pulling these strings and seeing Arsinoe first before anyone else could help him out and help him be king-consort. At first Arsinoe did not like him but she made herself clear and so did Billy while they were looking at the view. At first she wanted it to be just the three of them ( Jules, Joseph, and her ) but they brought Billy with them.
In Three Dark Crowns the person that I can relate to my family is Katherine. I say this because my family is pretty normal, but they always forge something for themselves and I do the same to some things. My father is really good at this everything that my father has gotten he has worked for. Katherine to win the crown must give it her all to win and that is something that I always do given the subject at hand.
Mrs. W 4thSamantha KaryThis would be a pretty far prediction because it would be a resolution but I think/ hope the 3 sisters will not fight and see who gets the crown but “make up” I guess and work together in a way that does not end with killing. Even though they don’t know anything about one another they still could find a way to become sisters again and work things out. I would love to see how things end on a happy note and not a terrible one.
I agree with your predictions, that the sisters will not fight each other because i feel that at the festival; they will get to know each other at the festival and try to fight for there freedom.
I also agree with this prediction due to the way Mirabella questions herself over the very fact that she seems to love her sisters, even though a queen is not supposed to love them. Then to add to this Mirabella also has bad feelings about killing, she can barely do so in her dreams, she even has a hard time killing someone who isn't her sister as we see with the sacrifice.
I agree and disagree with your prediction, i know that Mirabella does not want to kill her sisters, because she has started to feel a connection with them. I think that Katherine is most likely going to do anything possible to become the queen.
Cameron Steinbruegge4Mrs. WThe chapter with Katherine giving the death penalty to a criminal reminds me about how a person will take revenge over logic. They let things get to there head and no longer think about what will benefit them. The boy in the book who was executed had murdered the man who killed his sister for revenge. Humans will commit crimes often knowing that healthy and physical benefits won't be an outcome, ending in something that usually becomes their downfall.
three dark crowns is about a poisoner queen in the meadevil era having triplets one a poisoner like her, elemental and a naturalist. once they turn to 16 they must fight and kill each other to become queen
in the book the author gave me a good description to the author told us many details of mirabella's condition in a storm in one of the chapters .Joseph felt after being saved and how cold he was. i could imagine a shore with mirabella lighting a fire for Joseph clearly and how he was shivering besides the fire. it reminds me of when i was stuck outside and it was pouring and trees were falling down when i went camping in Georgia and how i was cold that night.
Samantha Kary4th HourMrs. WWhen they were in the woods together trying to get warm I could also see this happening in my head. The author used lots of details to explain this. I also had a similar experience when it was really cold out and I was locked out of my house and all I could think of was getting warm just like they were.
Trenton Brooksher3rd hrWuertenberg For some reason i get the slight hunch from the information in the wolf spring chapters that I have read that maybe Arsinoe is not the real naturalist queen but instead her friend Jules is. The signs are there camden being her familiar, her gift coming so easily, even the reason she stays so close to who we think is queen Arsinoe. I mean if they were close enough as children, the pair could have easily switched names to throw the other two sisters off their track. It may be a bit of a stretch for a prediction, but i find it a suitable easily seen plot twist. Although if others know more information that rejects this theory, then I do apologize for my reading of this book has been quite slow of the late.
I also feel the same even though i read through the book all the way, when Arsinoe is around Jules, it feels like Jules is the true naturalists queen and the aura of Jules just gives that off when they are in the same scene. Also when Jules is around she is always protecting Arsinoe and Arsinoe is suppose to be protecting herself with her own ability and once again Jules is taking on that protective queen.
I have not finished the book so i do not know how it ends, but i could see this theory becoming true. Some theory's that people make are not good and you can tell that they most likely not happen, but i in my opinion because i have not finished the book i think that it could happen.
Samantha Kary4th hourMrs. WDuring a part in the book Katherine had got her snake back and she was so happy and bubbly, that she had been jumping up and down and squealing on her way to her room because she was so happy. While this was happening I could see her in my mind dancing and just being happy in general. If i was in her shoes and had lost a pet or a friend and they had come back I would be just as happy and excited as she was about her snake.
I agree when I read this chapter of the book I could relate too it. From before when my dogs had gotten out of the house. So when i got to this chapter I really could imagine Katherine's joy of finding her pet.
Cameron Steinbruegge4th hrMrs. WWhenever they talked about the bear and the scars on her cheek I can really see the force of the attack on her and then her laying in bed taking off her own stitches in front of the mirror. I can tell how much she felt about her being the queen and how much she is willing to go through to prove to everyone that she is strong and will end up as the queen. Arsinoe may be the weakest of the three queens, but it feels as if she is willing to go through the most to become the crowned queen.
I agree with this comment because the way the author described the attack was just so brutal and the way you could feel the scars as if they were your own was absolutely incredible. The energy from this chapter was amazing because it showed the consequences of low magic and what it can attract to you.
Zinat OlogunduduMrs.Scheller 1stThe most important conflict in Three Dark Crowns is that every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born and they all have equal heirs to the crown and each possess some kind of magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions. But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t simply a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen is when the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown. If only it was that simple. Katharine is unable to tolerate the weakest poison, and Arsinoe, no matter how hard she tries, can’t make even a weed grow. The two queens have been shamefully faking their powers, taking care to keep each other, the island, and their powerful sister Mirabella. But with alliances being formed, betrayals taking shape, and ruthless revenge haunting the queens every move shows that one thing is certain, the last queen standing might not be the strongest but she may be the darkest of all of the three queens. I think this is the most important conflict because all the three triplet have to find a way to kill each other instead of trying to bring each other together since they have been apart for a long time.
Daisy OrtizThats very true in this book every time that triplets are born they have to go through the same thing. But isn't katharine still working on getting her strength?I don't know how far your in the book but its getting very interesting now that the ceremony is getting closer, but so far I'm really liking the book are you? I hope you are.
Ella HaysScheller 3i agree because the fact that they have grown up with each other for 16 years and then have to fight one another to the death for a crown is pretty messed up there bond must not be that great of sisters if they are actually willing to kill each other.
Francisco Jimenez1Scheller The most important conflict in the book "Three Dark Crowns" is that all three Queens have to kill each other for the title of the queen. Every time new triplets turn 16 years old they all have to fight each other and the last one standing gets to become the queen. Katherine is a poisoner, and she has to live up to the high expectations that everyone puts on her, she does not really care if she kills her sisters, if it means that she gets to be queen and make everyone proud. Arsinoe is the naturalist queen, she does not want to kill anyone, she just wants to escape and be with her family and friends, so will have trouble with killing her sister. Mirabella is the powerful elemental queen, she had the power to control elements, she is starting to think about her sisters and when they were all little, she knows that she is the most powerful and most likely to win, so she will have trouble killing her sisters.
Zoey walke Mrs. scheller 2 I completely agree with what you have said about the book Three Dark Crowns. Also, with the fact that I don't think Mirablle and Arsinoe will do much harm because they seem to be the people who wish to not kill their own siblings and wish to get away. Unlike Katherine who has been poisoned her whole life to be ready for this, and she doesn't care if she finishes her siblings off someone else does. She simply wants to make the people proud of her.
I agree with this, and i think it is the biggest conflict in the book let alone practically what the story is even about. It is clear mirabella wont hurt anyone and katherine and arisone could technically care less dispite both of their doubts. All three sisters have their conflicts and own troubles contributing to the story.
Daisy OrtizMrs. Schiller 1 I think that the biggest conflict in my book is trying to figure out who is the strongest queen. Each queen has a helper to make them stronger for the contest. Even some of their helpers say their not strong enough with their gifts. The most common queen they say that wont be able to win is the poison queen Katherine, she is the weakest queen which makes the helpers work harder because they need to work harder on her, although they also think that she is strong she needs a way to show it for people to believe it, Another conflict is when queen Mirabella running away because she knows that she wont be able to kill her sisters if she wins this is a problem because she knew that she wan't suppose to love them, People have their fate that she will win and so does she but she knows that wont kill her sisters because she loves them. Mirabella running away is the biggest conflict so far in my book. It did take me by surprise that she ran away but honestly I would do the same thing if I had sisters because I would love them too much.
I agree with you that the biggest conflict in this book is trying to know the strongest queen out of the three triplets. In my opinion i think Katherine is the strongest out of the triplet she just need an inspiration to be able to show it to the other people. If i had sisters and i loved them so much i would run as far away from them and i wont look back because i don't want to kill them.
Zoey Walke Mrs. scheller 2I agree with you in the fact that this is a conflict within the book. In opinion we don't know who the strongest is because each queen is at a different stage in there element. And running away from this wont help because Mirabella tried to do so, she was found and taken back to the kingdom to despair of her helpers. But I understand why'd you run away to save the life of your siblings. Also, they are separated at age six; so some won't recall their own siblings even if it was obvious. It depends on if they chose to remember or chose to block the fact just for the throne.
I do agree that one of the biggest conflicts is finding who the strongest queen is because usually it will and does determine who will rein the throne in the future. But i disagree with the mirabella running away. It isnt one of the most important conflicts but it is a very very crucial moment in her character as it leads to more in her story and so forth.
jordyn sgroischeller5th houri do agree that finding the stringest queen is the goal of the book and a very big conflict. However, mirabella running away does play a part in the story and the plot but its not an as important conflict unlike others who are more effective to the story
Zoey Walke Mrs. Scheller 2 I believe the most important conflict in the book The Three Dark Crowns is that every generation of triplets most be separated at age six, and go on without each other, to be able to kill each other. This happens so they do not get emotionally attached to their siblings; so they can kill each other for the one thrown. At a young age they start to train their powers to be able to get rid of their two other siblings for the thrown. This is important to the plot because without them being separated nor having the abilities they do, and lastly not being twins in line for the exact same crown you wouldn't have the book with all the twist within it. My reaction to this conflict is unknown. Due to the fact that they have to fight their own siblings yes that's sad; but what else are you suppose to do. You can run away like Mirabella tried to and get caught and come home to pain because you wish to not kill your siblings or just fight or give up. I reacted this way because of the fact this book is very well put together unlike some.
Zoey walke-Yes, i know i miss spelt throne oops.
Jordyn SgroiScheller5th HourI agree that this is one of the biggest conflicts because being with each other then get seperated at such a young age can hurt how the mind is developed. you have these memories of your family and soon you´ll have to kill them. That´s not how a family should be.
I couldn’t agree more about how sad it is for these teenage girls to go through all of these obstacles. Mirabella is definitely in a tight spot, as you mentioned before. However, perhaps she should have taken off Elizabeth’s coat and possibly burned it. That way Elizabeth would not have been dragged into that horrible situation.
The most important conflict in the book the three dark crowns is the fact that Arisone is not in tact with her powers as she should be, and neither is Katherine. I do know why however i wont say since i know many of the people on this discussion arent finished with the book yet. However, throughout the book arisone and katherine are struggling to maintain their own powers although labeled with them and it is causing them trouble. Katherine cannot take in poison well and arisone is barely able to form a rose. During the Belatain festival bad things happen and are happening specifically because arisone and katherine cannot contain or use their powers how the wish and please. i thought what happened was already coming to them. if you are going to attempt and try to impress suitors with a power you are barely aware of it is foolish to think you'll succeed with no trouble or conflict within it.
Jordyn SgroiScheller5th HourI think that the biggest conflict in this book was when Joseph cheated on Jules with Mirabella and yes even though he didn´t know it was the queen at first it doesn´t make a difference because he still did it. He should have just been grateful for the help. The storm was kind of Mirabella´s fault because she had the urge to make it bigger than it was. She decided to help joseph after being at fault for the storm. She didnt know that it was joseph and if she knew she probably would have felt different about him.
I agree that it was indeed wrong of Joseph to cheat on Jules, but let’s not forget that at that time he thought he was already dead. Perhaps he thought because he was already dead, he would never see Jules again, and so he took his grief out on Mirabella. Also, Mirabella wasn’t intentionally trying to make the waves worse. She was simply trying to use her ability to save Joseph’s life. At that time she didn’t have complete control because she was afraid and worried he would die. She was rushed and had to think quickly or else Joseph could have been swimming with the fishes (pun intended)
Samantha KaryMrs. W4I also agree with you about how Joseph should not have cheated on Jules and how he constantly keeps doing it. Yes he didn't know the first time but that shouldn't make him keep doing it now that he knows.
When I was first asked the question,” What is the most important conflict in this book”, I was not sure how to answer. After reading several chapters, I have noticed that there are all sorts of conflicts that happen as each chapter is in a different perspective for each girl. For Mirabella it seems that she is facing an internal conflict with herself. This conflict where she is constantly questioning whether or not she can prove to others that she is the strongest out of the triplets. As this occurs, Katharine is also facing an external conflict where the people around her bury her in what she should and shouldn't do in order to become stronger. The painful poisons that are rubbed into her skin as part of the “exercises” that will allow her to become stronger. She doesn't like this pain of course, but if she doesn't do as she is told there will be worse punishments. As everyone has said before, if she doesn't become stronger, one of her sisters will not hesitate to kill her. Meanwhile, Arsinoe goes through a very similar yet different external conflict as Katharine. In a certain way, you could see that people are trying to make Arsinoe stronger and more prepared. This way she can kill her sisters, like Katharine. However, unlike Katharine, Arsinoe has friends that show her a bit of a silver lining anytime she gets gloomy. With Jules, Joseph, and Junior by her side, she feels as though there is hope for her. But this doesn't mean that she is strong in her powers. An important conflict I noticed with Arsinoe is that she doesn't she has started to take notice of the weakness of her ability. Arsinoe now has a sort of internal conflict with herself as she questions her strength. She also questions whether or not she should allow Madrigal’s low magic to affect her. All of these conflicts are important to the plot because it determines what may be a positively outcome of who wins this bloody battle between sisters. Their conflicts may be different, but they are all facing challenges. Challenges that could either weaken them or make them stronger. In a different topic, my reactions in each conflict that I saw going on between these girls were all the same. I felt sorry for them. I felt sorry because no teenager should have to be put through such awful trials. Trials to prove whether or not they are strong. These poor girls are being put down by all sorts of people, even though they truly don't deserve it.
If I could have one gift from Three Dark Crowns I would want to have the naturalist gift because the naturalist ways to live in nature are really cool to me. I would also love to have an animal that you could normally not have to you naturally without the gift. I would use it restore majority of the forests that have been cut down due to deforestation and human greed and illegal cutting of trees. I would also use it to make the forests of the world better then they are right now and make them look amazing. If someone other then me got their hands on this ability I fear that if they were affiliated to any government that they would try and study the ability and allow themselves to use the ability themselves and some how convert it into a way to make humans immortal and that would cause the earth to fall into a worse scenario then it is already in. Then they would use their familiars and military might to conquer the world and the war possible might be a nuclear war.
Samantha KaryMrs. W5thIf I had one gift of my choice I would want to be able to make people see whatever I want them to see. Like be able to get in their head and place images of chaos, happy places, beautiful things, and basically anything that they or I want them to see. This gift could be used for evil if it needed to but not on purpose. It may help others in many ways. For example, if someone is upset or is in danger this could help them. If my gift had been placed into the wrong hands I would try to do everything in my power to stop them from using it for evil, if that’s what they plan on doing, I would need to figure out who can help and how they can help with this situation. I would make sure if that one person has it that it can’t get passed to someone else and so on.
Cameron SteinbrueggeMrs W.4If I had to choose a gift it would be the naturalist gift. There isn't much information about the war gift so I didn't want to choose that. The sight gift would drive a man mad, so that sounds more harmful than beneficial. I think that the poisoner gift is only good with for defense, because I'm not planning to kill or be killed right now, I don't have much use for the poisoner gift. The choice between naturalist and elemental is difficult. I think it would really depend on how strong each ability is. So assuming that each gift is at their near best, I would choose the gift of the elemental. Controlling strong animals would be very useful and cool, but if one were to get out of control I and surrounding people would be in danger. With the elementals' gift, I would have lots more control, and I could always save lots of money by controlling electricity and the lack of a need for any control in temperature. I feel that the elemental gift would be the most useful for my life.
I agree with the choice of the elemental gift because not only is it the most useful but it's also one of the most neutral, yes every gift is neutral at it's base the poisoners can heal as well as kill but as it's mentioned they have lost that over time, while the naturalist gift seems to be too good for the prosperity of the people, at least with the elemental gift you can create and destroy allowing more room for choice in one's life, all that is needed is the knowledge so one knows the path to choose
Trenton BrooksherMrs W.3If i had to choose one gift to use as I please, I would choose the sight gift, for many reasons. First off from what I have read I have barely heard of this gift, and I prefer to take the path of the unknown. Secondly sight could mean many things, it could mean you see an unseen world, or the future, past, truth, or even instead of seeing the external things that are out of our control we could see our selves in a different light. All of these I would be fine with. Yes the sight is said to be the gift that drives people mad, but i see that happening mainly to people who develop their gift later in their lives but if a person grows up with it then they learn to cope or even use it. For instance I would use this gift to see the truth about my and other's past, future, and emotions, but everything comes with a price, so my price will be to know my death. And for my third and final reason, because the gift more unknown than the rest it could be used to find others with the same gift, what I mean is the reason I would like this gift is because of the slight off chance that that I won't be alone.
If I could choose my gift if I was in this world it would be the war gift. Because I think it would be useful during this time and era. People are still being murdered in broad daylight. And with the war gift i wouldn't be worried of being killed or robbed on the island. I could also use my gift for making money and gaining power. With the war gift I would use it to help myself by joining tournaments on the island. Maybe work for someone as a bodyguard. Assassinate people for money If the war gift fell into the wrong hands. I feel like it would be used to rage war against other nations. Also possible be used to terrorize the island, used to take over the island. Kill the queen and become the ruler of the island.
If i was in the world of ¨Three Dark Crowns¨ i would like to have the elemental gift. if i had the elemental power you could Change the weather, and help people that are homeless, and help fight wars.
Zinat OlogunduduMrs. Scheller1st hourThis book is filled with a lot of mystery it has a lot unexpected twist, mystical and filled with emotions like disappointment, sadness, and excitement. I think the message the author is trying to tell me is that sometimes you might have a chance of succeeding but there are other people with you and if you want to win ,you have to go to your fullest potential. For example,In the book it says,“For it is too cruel otherwise, to force a queen to kill that which she loves. Her own sisters. And for her to see that which she loves come at her door like wolves, seeking her head.” When” says Arsinoe. Generally speaking, the three queens have to kill each other until there is only one of them to become queen even though it is not their choice but the black council who made the rules they give three triplets for every new heir and at the age of 16 they have to fight for their life. Because the three triplets want to win they have to do want they don't want to do after being separated from one another for sixteen years.
Francisco JimenezHour 1Scheller The Theme In the book ¨Three Dark Crowns¨ is People are not always what they seem. In the book ¨Three Dark Crowns¨ A set of triplets are born and when they grown to the age of 16 they will have to fight for the title of queen. Throughout the book we are told the abilities of each queen, Katherine is the poisoner, Arsinoe is a naturalist, and Mirabella is an elemental. The only queen that really had her abilities in the whole book was Mirabella, but Katherine was considered weak, and Arsinoe was considered a queen with no ability. We later learn that the things that we were told were false, Arsinoe did have an ability, but she was not a naturalist, she was a poisoner. She ended up becoming the queen with the help of her Poisoner abilities. So the theme of the book is that you can not believe things that people tell you about yourself.
Zoey walkeI completely agree with what you have said. This shows that people through out things depending on the outcome will change. Though, not many expected that big of a twist coming into the end of the book.
Daisy Ortiz Mrs. Schiller 1 I think that my theme for my book so far is learning to move forward. The reason I think that this is the theme is because even if you have obstacles in you path(I don't mean literally obstacles) you have to learn to move forward although it might be hard to move forward sometimes you'll eventually have to move forward. Like for example Mirabella has to move forward if she wins and becomes queen she has to learn to live without her sisters after she kills them. I know this will be hard for her because she is starting to get really close to her sisters to the point that she had to run away.Another example is Jules and Joseph, Jules learned to move forward when Joseph got banished she learned to live her life without her best friend, she was heartbroken when he got banished but later she learned to move forward. That's why I think this is the theme for my book,
DalyceScheller 2I agree with this theme because even though Jules did lose her best friend she still lived her life as she would. She learned how to move on with her life instead of living life sad and depressed because her friend is gone.
Dalyce Mrs. Scheller 2I think the theme for my book so far is about overcoming obstacles. In life you are faced with challenges that may be life threatening to you or someone else, but to overcome them you have to go through them. "I have to go,' she says. 'Please. I cannot stay here anymore and dream of my sisters talking to me from dead bodies. I x=cannot kill them. I know that you need me to; I know that is what I am meant to do...'" Mira is refusing to kill her sisters because she knows that isn't the right think to do. She is tired of the dreams she is having of her dead sisters.
Zoey Walke mrs. Scheller 1st hourThe universal theme in Three Dark Crowns is that people aren't always what they seem to be. By this its simply looking at the three main characters in the book. They all have another side no one thought would appear. (SPOILERS) Mirabella said once to her maids she doesn't wish to kill her siblings; but in the end she will do what ever it takes to get the throne for herself. In the end of the book Mirabella is discussing an attack with Bree and Elizabeth. Elizabeth speaks about how naturalist would have to be unbelievably strong. she also adds in the protector (Joseph). They wonder if he'll protect her again since he is friends with Arsinoe. MAribella decides he is ready to kill her siblings whenever given the chance to do so. Arsinoe was always known as the Naturalist but later to find out that she had eaten candy that had been poisoned. The box of chocolate was given to her by Billy. Though Jules became very ill due to eaten the chocolate Arsinoe never felt the effects of the poison since she was the true poisoner.
I do agree however there could be more description to that theme. Yes they are definately not all who they seem to be so i mostly agree ! i feel that mirabella will still have problems with killing her sisters as to further on it seems that arisone will possibly have a deeper connection with her as to where katherine is rather emotionless when it comes to her sisters regardless.
DalyceScheller 2The biggest conflict in my book is trying to figure out who the strongest queen is. The three queens have a "maid" that specializes in there "gift" to help make them stronger for their contest. The queen they say is the weakest and wont be able to win is Katherine, the poison queen, she is the weakest queen out of the three and the "maids" have to work alot harder with her to make sure she can win. Another conflict in my book is when Queen Mirabella is running away because she can't kill her sisters. This is a problem because in their world queen sisters aren't supposed to love each other, but Mira loves them. Mirabella running away is one of the biggest conflicts in the book. I did not expect Mira to run away, but I understand why she did it. I probably would do the same thing if I was in the same situation as her.
Zoey WalkeDalyce I completely agree with your conflict you have written. Due to the whole series is dedicated to finding out what the Three sisters will end up doing. If they come together and end the battle or will there only be one queen left to take the throne? Having read the second book already out of the four I cant wait to figure out the rest.
Everyones strength is equivalent to their own weakness, which is one of the themes in The Three Dark Crowns. Throughout the novel, each character has a deep weakness yet a strong trait about them that adds to their character. katherine is skilled with poisoning yet is not herself a poisoner as to arisone and her 'naturalist powers'.. however, katherine is weak within herself despite her mental coldness against her sisters, arisone is childish and a bit care free despite her maturity and awareness. Mirabella is extremely strong with her powers yet her mentality of loving her sisters gets in the way of what her goal was supposed to be. It is meaningful because it shows that no matter your strengths you will always have one weakness and it's very true.
