Mr. W 3rd Hour Ryan ClappAll the Gallant Men is about the journey and the struggles of 19 year old Donald Straton who was a survivor of Japan´s attack on Pearl Harbor while he was aboard his ship, the USS Arizona. He grew up in Nebraska in a small town with a poor family. He went to a high school in a bigger town, but struggled to find a job so when the Navy recruiter came to town he decided it was the right choice to enlist into the Navy to help his family with their expenses.
Mr. W 3rd hour Shane RuloIn the book All the Gallant Men a young man named Donald Stranton who comes from a family struggling from the great depression and the dust bowl. When he gets out of high school all he is worried about is making a steady income, when a navy recruiter comes to town Donald decide 's to join the navy for the steady income and a chance to see the world.
Mrs. W 3rd hour Ryan Clapp In all the Gallant Men I think later in the book Donald will eventually leave the hardships of the Navy and realize that it isn't only exploring the world. This reminds me when my grandfather was drafted into Vietnam and was very upset just like how all the people who were drafted in this book were.
my grandpa was drafted into the Vietnam war too and he loved showing me his room full of his stuff from the war but i could always tell that when he walked into that room it would bring back memories bad and good.
Mrs.W 3rd hour Shane Ruloin the book Donald talks about how when he was leaving his family to go to basic training its was very hard and emotional but at the same time it was exciting. i can relate to that from when i went on vacation without my parents for the first time i was young and have never been that far away from home without my parents and i had never been on a plane so i was super nervous but at the same time see the worl outside of Missouri.
Mrs. W 3rd Hour Ryan ClappI also connect to that because I remember going to school for the first time, I was very nervous about going but also excited to see what school had in store just like how Donald was very nervous to leave his family and ride on a boat for the first time.
Mrs. W 3rd Hour Ryan ClappWhen I read this book I visualized the USS Arizona because he described it as huge boat and I thought of the battleships I would see in movies and how big and massive they are compared to all the other boats. When he talked about how smaller boats didn't take the waves as good as big boats I remembered when I would ride a boat and how it would swing back and forth.
Mrs W 3rd hour Shane Rulo i could also imagine the size of the Arizona with its massive guns and huge crew he explained it with so much detail i felt as if i was on the ship and part of the crew.
Mrs. W 3rd hour Shane RuloIn the book Donald Stratton was describing the attack and after math of pearl harbor I could visualize the horror's , the death and destruction the men running for safety from the planes , ships burning and explosions every where. I could hear the cry's of men and ear piercing gun fire. I Felt the sadness and rage that all american's had felt that day. It made me feel the heart break and loss of all the young mean who died that day and all the agony the had to deal with.
Mrs. W 3rd hour Ryan ClappI also felt the rage the sailors onboard the USS Arizona and the other ships that were being strafed and bombed by Japanese Zeros. The Japanese taunted the sailors as they flew by filling them with rage and hatred for the cowardly attack without warning.
Mrs. W 3rd Hour Ryan ClappThe reason to read All the Gallant Men is because it tells the story of the survivors of Pearl Harbor, but the perspective of the story is unlike any other because the person the story is over survived the attack on the USS Arizona, the boat that housed thousands of Navy sailors and only a few were able to make it out alive and tell their story to the people. All the Gallant Men also tells a very interesting story of some of his crew mates and shows that each and every one of the corpses floating in the water had a story, and family waiting for them.
Mrs. W 3rd hour Shane Rulo I agree the detail is amazing that is the main reason i chose this book cause its a true story and you cant get a better point of view its like actually being there. This book is about history and history is pretty important to me so it makes me feel good when people bring up the importance of our history.
Mrs w 3rd hour Shane Rulo the reason i read all the gallant men is because its not an educational book its a book the remember what happen'd during those rough times you can feel the emotions inside of you that those men felt. it makes you wanna get up and support the war effort like every american that day. its not a boring book you get to look behind the scenes of what happen'd that day.while reading this book i felt sorrow but at the same time i could fell the bravery and courage those men had.this book is at the top of my favorite book list cause its about something I'm interested in and its a true story told from a special perspective. so if you think you shouldn't read this book you are very wrong this book is great and you should really give it a chance before you say you don't wanna read it
Mrs. W 3rd Hour Ryan ClappI agree and also felt the same way while reading the book, but I think if you think you shouldn't read this book you probably shouldn't because the cover and the name of this book pretty much tells the story, but if you enjoy historical books or even historical fiction you will love this book.
